The aim of many of our classes is to strive towards a realistic drawing or painting. This time, let's have some fun creating a composition just looking at shapes, colours and patterns using a medium of your choice!

It will include sketching buildings, boats and beach scenes as well as quick people studies and a “how to” on perspective – all the skills required to improve your observation and drawing technique and the perfect way to fill your sketchbook. We will mostly be working outdoors, weather permitting.

An opportunity to learn new techniques or experiment with soft pastels: the perfect medium for landscapes, seascapes, still life or portraits.

Building up a sketchbook and working “en plein air” is good way of improving your drawing technique. For this day of drawing outside, we have the use of a garden in Dunwich, which is adjacent to the abbey ruins and also close to the beach.

If you can sign your name, you can draw! Carole will demonstrate techniques that help you to 'see' and draw more accurately; to master shading and learn to create textures. Working from natural objects and using graphite pencils, charcoal and ink. You will see the world in a different way

Carole will show you how to capture animals' character, expression, shape and form using soft pastels and pastel pencils. Using a variety of techniques and tricks you will practice painting the texture of fur, the patterns on an animal's coat or a bird's feathers.

Putting a figure or figures into a painting can create a sense of scale, a focal point or simply add life to a painting. Carole will take you through step by step, showing you how to capture accurate proportions and place figures in a landscape.
