Landscapes and Portraits at Dedham Hall: 28th March - 3rd April 2026

Through popular demand, this week long mixed course running from 28th March to 3rd April will give you a chance to experiment with or improve both landscape and portrait painting, using watercolours, soft pastels and or acrylics - the choice is yours.

On Sunday and Monday we will be "en plein air" (weather permitting) sketching and painting the eclectic range of buildings in Dedham as well as the picturesque surroundings of Dedham Hall itself.  Carole will be on hand to help you with composition, perspective, pen and wash techniques, tips for working outdoors etc.  Sketches can be developed into paintings, which can be continued on Tuesday morning, the afternoon being free time.

On Wednesday and Thursday we will be drawing and painting portraits, working from models in the studio.  Carole will demonstrate how to start drawing the portrait, place the features accurately, whilst considering bone structure, planes of the face…
